James T. Parrish, Jr.
James T. Parrish, Jr., is a fundraiser, artist, and leader in the Richmond, Virginia, arts community with more than twenty-four years of fundraising experience in higher education and the nonprofit sector. He currently serves as the director of foundation relations for Virginia Commonwealth University. In addition, he occasionally teaches undergraduate classes in filmmaking and film history for the VCU School of the Arts and VCU School of World Studies. James is founder of the Richmond Flicker (1998–2008), a bi-monthly screening of short Super 8 and 16mm films by local filmmakers; cofounder of the Richmond Moving Image Co-op (est. 1999), now the James River Film Society; and he is currently leading an effort to establish the Bijou Film Center, an independent art house cinema and nonprofit film center, in the heart of Richmond’s downtown arts district. In recognition for his commitment to the arts and independent film, James was selected as a Professional Development Fellow for the 57th Robert Flaherty Film Seminary in 2011, was recognized as one of Style Weekly’s “Top 40 Under 40” in 2006, and was awarded the Theresa Pollak Prize for Photography/Film in 2005.James has two children (a son and a daughter), loves Eastern NC barbecue and is a proud alumnus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
