Lisa Alembik
A native Atlantan, Lisa Alembik is an artist, educator, and curator. Through drawings, paintings, and sculptural installation she explores the effects of loving and loss on the fleshy body. In addition, she often restructures or invents spaces that are charged with histories of love or violence—especially violence against women—as witnessed in her small, graphite, graphic “Murder Ballad” drawings. She has exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia, the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center, and the Huntsville Museum, among others. Her curations include “Blackbird on your shoulder,” an exhibit about storytelling in the South expressed through visual art, writing, and music—and “My sweet, sweet . . .,” which delved into connection and desire, both exhibited at Agnes Scott College in Decatur, GA. Most recently Alembik organized “Lightweight” at the Hambidge Center for Arts and Sciences in Rabun Gap, GA. Alembik can be found teaching the foundations of art at Georgia State University-Perimeter College.
