John Twomey
John Twomey earned a BS from the University of Dayton and an MS from Boston University. He served for two years on active duty in the U.S. Army and subsequently spent most of his career in high-tech sales and consulting. He helped found a half dozen companies in that space from founding partner to angel investor and board member. Upon retirement, he volunteered as an executive in residence for a year with Habitat for Humanity and subsequently served two terms on the North Carolina Habitat for Humanity Board. Additionally, he became involved with International Focus (IF), the organization that manages the U.S. State Department’s International Visitor’s Leadership Program for the Research Triangle area. John served two terms on the IF board. Most importantly, however, John is the very proud grandfather of five.
Ten Things I Can’t Do Without
- Family and friends
- The daily New York Times and New York City (Broadway, museums, food!)
- Hot dogs
- Travel, mountains in particular (30 countries and 6 continents and counting, Rockies to the Himalayas)
- Art, both making it and visiting it
- Hot tea to start the day
- Barbecue – Eastern NC is best, of course, but Memphis dry rub, Kansas City, and Texas are all good
- Chocolate – deep, dark chocolate
- Making a difference through my nonprofit activities
- Tutoring kindergartners and first graders in reading – watching the light bulbs go off in their heads is such a joy!
