Margaret Rich
Margaret Rich, a native of South Carolina, has lived most of her adult life in North Carolina, where she has worked for the past twenty-five years as a professional gardener at a private garden in Durham. She was educated at Mills College in Oakland, CA, and received a Thomas J. Watson Fellowship for a year of independent study abroad in 1979–80. She earned an MFA in creative writing from Bennington College in 2012. She lives in Chapel Hill with her husband, James, and their cat, Obama, and is working on a memoir about her personal upheaval as a single mother during the social revolution of the ’70s.
Ten Things I Can’t Do Without
- Family and
- Friends (people I can quote) with a sturdy sense of humor and capacity for forgiveness
- A checkered past and
- Good health
- Flowers
- Lipstick (“Copperglaze Brown”—discontinued)
- Reading glasses
- Ironed sheets
- Real butter and salt
- Is there anything else? Oh yes, a CAR!
Margaret’s photo and bio fit the Margaret Rich whom I knew in the early ’70s. I’m happy that she survived those years and, as I, came out shining. Please pass my email address on to her.
What a pleasure to meet you in Al’s burgers. You are a fine example of a southern woman who exudes charm, confidence, strength and inherent beauty.
I look forward to the next occasion when our paths cross!
Best,
Susan
