Rob Shapard
Rob Shapard is a writer and historian who focuses on stories about people and natural environments in the American South. He grew up in Georgia, went North for college, wanted to become a pro golfer but wasn’t all that good and became a journalist instead, moved to North Carolina, and later earned a Ph.D. in environmental and U.S. history at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has never seen an ivory-billed woodpecker, but the odds seem pretty good to him that the species lives on yet.
