Mia Gröndahl

Mia Gröndahl is a Swedish writer and photographer who has reported from the Middle East for eighteen years. Based in Cairo since 2001, Gröndahl’s interest in graffiti began in Gaza, and resulted in her first book on graffiti, Gaza Graffiti: Messages of Love and Politics. When she published her latest book, Revolution Graffiti: Street Art of the New Egypt in 2013, she realized that of the seventeen thousand graffiti images she had photographed in Egypt, less than three hundred depicted women, and even fewer were by female artists. This inspired her to take the initiative of the Women on Walls exhibition (WOW), with the aim of empowering female graffiti artists and women in general.
