Ten Things I Can’t Do Without

  1. “Introversion time”—time to recharge by being alone and thinking, working, and reflecting. The needed amount varies, but it is essential.
  2. The drum.
  3. My family, especially the childhood laughter while outside. Picnics and kite flying are truly lost arts.
  4. The ethos of my parents.
  5. Night walks in the orchard.
  6. The Matrix trilogy. “There’s a difference between knowing the path and walking the path.”
  7. Making jam with my wife. Fig jam is the best.
  8. Books, books, and more books. I can live without Kindle though. Don’t worry about the paper . . . I plant lots of trees.
  9. My trusty and huge 8 cubic feet capacity wheelbarrow. Four hours pushing that can beat Freud and Jung in cognitive behavioral therapy/psychoanalysis any day. Plus it is cheaper and good cardio.
  10. The voices of elders and the strength of plants.
