Nada El Sawy

Nada El Sawy is an Egyptian-American freelance journalist based in Cairo since 2020. She was Cairo correspondent for Abu Dhabi-based newspaper The National from January 2021 to May 2023. Prior to moving to Cairo, she had lived in Dubai for 16 years, working as a business reporter for The National and previously a freelancer for various publications, including the New York Times, the Financial Times, and Newsweek. In the US, El Sawy had worked as a reporter for the Associated Press in Los Angeles and an editorial assistant at Newsweek in New York. She received her master’s degree from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism and her undergraduate degree from the University of Southern California in LA, where she grew up.
