Tarleton Blackwell
Tarleton Blackwell is a native of Manning, South Carolina. He is a 1978 graduate of Benedict College, Columbia, South Carolina. Blackwell received both the Master of Arts and the Master of Fine Arts degrees from the University of South Carolina. In 1990, he earned an Associate of Science degree in Funeral Service from Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Service in Atlanta, Georgia, and is both a nationally licensed funeral director and embalmer. He is former manager, funeral director, and embalmer for Blackwell and Jenkins Funeral Home, Manning, South Carolina. From 2002 through 2006, Blackwell was the recipient of the Martha Beach Endowed Chair in Painting at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, where he was Visiting Professor and Artist-In-Residence. He is former art instructor for Florence School District Two, Clarendon County School District Two, South Carolina State University, Williamsburg County Schools, the Columbia Museum of Art, the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts, and Vermont College of Norwich University. Currently, he is the art instructor at Scott’s Branch High School, Clarendon School District One, in Summerton, South Carolina. Blackwell has been named an “Outstanding Young Man of America” and an “Outstanding Professional South Carolinian in the Field of Art.” His website is www.tarletonblackwell.com.
